Over the past several years, Continental Kennel Club has been very involved in FFA in both the state and national level. This year Continental Kennel Club attended FFA Conventions in the following states: Louisiana, Kentucky and Mississippi. There were games, raffles and prizes awarded and lots of questions answered at the various booths. It is exciting to see high school students interested in the care and responsibility that goes along with dog ownership.

At the Louisiana FFA Convention CKC’s Crystal Simoneaux, an Instructional Coordinator and Certified Professional Dog Trainer, taught a class called “The Doggone Workshop.” She spent an hour with students teaching them practical training techniques that they can practice on their own. The students played games that enforced the powerful effect of positive reinforcement in dog training. There were around 60 students who attended this class, and there was an enormous amount of positive feedback from those that participated in the class.

Another class was taught by Continental Kennel Club’s President, Mike Roy. It was called “Agscience is for the Dogs”. Mike’s class was geared toward teachers as it outlined CKC’s Canine Care and Training Program. This program is currently being taught in several of the Louisiana’s public schools in its AgScience programs. Students who took this class learned important concepts of dog ownership including dog socialization, health and training. Teachers at the Louisiana State Convention learned how they too could receive more information to teach this course in their own classroom.

Continental Kennel Club’s representatives who attended these State Conventions all said that they had a great time. They enjoyed handing out free goodies to students who were interested in all of the exciting information that CKC was offering at their booths. They also took pleasure in giving out prizes to the students who won the different raffle items CKC sponsored during the convention. We are looking forward to seeing these wonderful students and teachers again at the National FFA convention in October!”
