South Mississippi Weight Pull Association and Continental Kennel Club held its annual MayFest 2008 at SMWPA’s new location in Magee Mississippi. The weather was a little hot, but that didn’t stop the events from going on.

Saturday morning the event kicked off with the JR. Handler Events and Novice Obedience trials. Ten year old Jr. Handler Blake Rash competed in Obedience with his dog Sabel, showing patience and hard work as he and his dog worked together as a team. Saja Featherstone competed in the Sub-Novice and Novice levels of Obedience, and congratulations go out to both her and her dogs Zoose and Bull as they passed their trials.

That afternoon began with our three Weight Pulling competitions. Congratulations to our Most Weight Pulled winner, Featherstone’s Bub, who pulled 2,075 lbs. and our Pound for Pound winner, Cochran’s Piggy, who pulled 33.5 times her body weight. We were also glad to see two of our returning Weight Pull Champions, Zoose and Yankee, come out and continue to work hard toward achieving their Grand Championship Titles.

Sunday Morning we held our Agility trials followed by the afternoon Conformation Fun Show. Congratulations to Best in Show Adult who was awarded to Russia, an Afghan Hound, with Best in Show Reserve going to Short Mtns. Rougie Ray, a Yorkshire Terrier. The Puppy class Best in Show went to Laura Donna, an Afghan Hound and Best in Show reserve went to Featherstone’s Magie, an American Pit Bull Terrier.
