My father had a running conversation with his dog. Well, let’s say it was more of a monologue, considering the fact that, as far as I know, he was doing all of the talking. Toward the end of his life, there was Andy, a mixed breed that wandered up after hurricane Andrew. All my life, I had awoken to the sound of that one special man speaking to the current dog and cat about the problems of the world, as he drank his first cup of coffee. Andy just had the distinction of being the last of a long line of politically informed dogs that inhabited our home. There is no doubt that this man of strong convictions relished this quiet time, he alone holding the floor, while his rapt subjects listened as the latest argument concerning current affairs took shape.
