Appearance: Head: Broad, fairly long and wedge shaped. Eyes: Medium, almond shaped, and dark in color. Ears: Pricked and set high. Muzzle: Medium and tapering to a point. Nose: Black and self-colored according to coat. Bite: Scissor or level. Neck: Round and tapered. Topline: Level. Chest: Full and deep, with ribs slightly arched. Body: Back is short, straight and powerful, with loins semi-broad. Legs: Forelegs are strong and straight, with hind legs well muscled. Stifles are well bent, but hocks are only slightly bent. Feet: Compact, with arched toes. Tail: Long and carried low. Movement: Quick, yet well balanced movements. Temperament: Fearless, loyal, and willing to please. *The Dutch Shepherd comes in three varieties: the Longhaired, the Shorthaired, and the Roughhaired. The height, weight, and coat color are the same for all three varieties-the only difference being the type of coat (medium long and wiry for the Roughhaired). |
