Appearance: Head: Massive with pronounced lips. Skull is broad. Eyes: Small, reddish brown in color. Ears: Carried close to cheeks. Muzzle: Wide and well tapered. Nose: Black and self-colored according to coat. Bite: Scissor or level. Neck: Muscular. Top-line: Level. Chest: Broad and deep. Body: Rectangular, solid muscle, strong bone. Legs: Forelegs are perfectly straight, with hind legs muscular and having hocks well let down. Feet: Small and compact, with arched toes and hard pads. Tail: Undocked. Movement: Strong and driving, yet very agile. Temperament: Protective and aloof with strangers.
*The Tosa is well known for his power and size, like the “sumo wrestler”. The Tosa gives no ground and it attacks any threatening adversary head-on. Nevertheless the Tosa, when properly handled, makes a good family companion. |
