Description: There are many pleasing characteristics of the Border Collie that would make it appealing to anyone who was looking for a new puppy. Just keep in mind that these highly intelligent, agile, and energetic dogs need time and patience from their owners in order to be a perfect match. They are great family pets, and are extremely loyal. They don’t respond well to physical punishment in training as it can hurt their spirit and their self-esteem. They do, however, respond well to verbal corrections and lots of praise. They need LOTS of time from their owners - walks, runs, playtime, and especially training. Because they are so willing to learn, there must always be some new challenge for them to accomplish.
  
Appearance: Head: Light in appearance, but in proportion to body. Eyes: Fairly large and set wide apart. Ears: Proportioned to the size of head. Muzzle: Long and narrow. Nose: Black and self-colored according to coat. Bite: Scissor or level. Neck: Firm, clean, muscular and heavily coated. Chest: Deep and extending to the level of the elbows. Body: Back is strong and level with a sloped croup, and arched loin. Legs: Forelegs are well boned and straight, with hind legs muscular and having stifles and hocks bent well down. Feet: Oval shaped, with arched toes and thick pads. Tail: Carried low, with an up swirl at tip. Movement: Swift and very agile, with flowing gait. Temperament: High-spirited, yet very lovable.
